So, what is Batman, wait . . . I mean . . . so, what did Christian Bale do after Batman? Well, apparently it was Out of the Furnace and it looks pretty bad-ass. Co-written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Horse), Out of the Furnace seems dark, gritty, and tough. The kind of movie that attracts a lot of Oscar attention.
Not to mention the cast, which garners its own Oscar attention as it is is littered with past winners and nominees. Along with Bale, Forest Whitkaer has also taken home an Oscar. Then there are Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Shepard who have all been nominated. Some serious acting talent involved in this film. And then there is Zoe Saldana, who has not been nominated, but she is hot, so it’s okay.
The film, as I mentioned before, looks about as tough as a movie can get and the trailer is all played over Pearl Jam’s “Release,” which seems like an appropriate song selection if you ask me. Also, this story line reminds me a bit of Winter’s Bone, with the search for a missing family member and the presence of small town justice being similar. However, you replace Jennifer Lawrence with Christian Bale, add in more mature and violent sequences and top it off with revenge. It makes for a very compelling story line .
Out of the Furnace has a limited release on November 27, 2013 and then releases nationally December 6.
