The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a remake (yes, I looked it up) to the 1947 version of the same name. Starring Ben Stiller, who also directs, Mitty looks inspiring, though-provoking, and unique. It has a sense of wonderment, a hint of a dreamer. It just seems plain different. The kind of movie that stands out, but is not seeking your attention. The kind of movie that was not made to make money, but will anyway. The kind of movie you’ll want to see.
Mitty is Stiller’s fifth time directing, but he has never entered this type of genre film before as a director. By that I mean the more serious film, not Zoolander, which, yes, he directed. For his journey into dreams, Stiller has a solid cast supporting him, including Kristen Wiig, Sean Penn, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn, and Shirley MacLaine. That type of talent undoubtedly helps when trying to direct a film of this nature.
This trailer has garnered a lot of buzz over the last couple of days. I have even seen people say Stiller is going to get nominated for an Oscar. I won’t go that far, but my interest is certainly peaked.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty opens on Christmas Day.
