The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the second film in “The Hobbit” trilogy. Peter Jackson’s first installment, An Unexpected Journey, received mixed reviews, mostly due to the high-frame rate the film was shot in. For me, I could see how that could happen. Although I was amazed by the technology and the fluidity of the picture was like anything I’ve seen before, it was just too real and we saw too much. We are not accustomed to seeing as much as Jackson showed and I could see how people were turned off by it. I am not sure if this film is going to be presented in the HFR like last year. For everyone’s sake, hopefully not, because the HFR was talked about more than the actual film.
An Unexpected Journey was a bit slow at times, as it developed the characters and the story lines. However, this film should be more adventurous and action-filled, as depicted in the trailer, than the first, as Bilbo will be getting into some messy situations during his journey. Also, the introduction of the dragon, Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), will be a crowd-pleaser.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on December 13, 2013 (Friday the 13th!!)
