I believe Winter’s Tale may be the first trailer released for Valentine’s Day, so there’s that. But there’s also Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe, so there is also some serious acting talent here that leads me to believe that this one has some potential that reaches further than your sappy, run-in-the-mill valentine romance. Another factor that makes me think this will be a different Valentine’s movie: director Akiva Goldsman. He has only directed episodes of Kings and Fringe, but he has written A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man (hmmm, both Russell Crowe movies) and he wrote Winter’s Tale as well. I am going to be hopeful that this movie pans out.
Valentine’s Day actually lands on a friday in 2014 and will sure to be filled with plenty of romantic comedies to go around, but Winter’s Tale seems as though it will actually bring love and emotion, instead of the usual Valentine’s Day films that pretend they are about love and deal with superficial and shallow details and only try to get a cheap laugh. There doesn’t seem to be anything “cheap” about Winter’s Tale.
Winter’s Tale for the Valentine’s Day trump card. It hits theaters on February 14, 2014.
P.S. Will Smith is listed as playing Judge. Get ready.
