I love Scarlett Johansson. Like seriously. She is fantastic. And she does such interesting movies that expand her range as an actress. She can fight. She can be a lady. And oh my God can she be a voice, like in both Her and The Jungle Book. My favorite type of role that ScarJo does now are her action/sci-fi roles. First there was Under the Skin, where she played an alien who seductively lured men and used their flesh, or something. She also wanted to be human, I think. I really need to watch that one again, because it was really interesting and a lot to think about. Then she did Lucy, which showed her hand to hand combat skills and all the butt she can kick. So I am excited to see her kick some more butt in Ghost in the Shell.
I remember when this movie was announced and that Johansson got the role, there was a backlash because The Major, the character she plays in this one, is Asian, but Hollywood elected to go with Scarlett Johansson to make it more marketable. Also, people just like her. I get “white-washing” is a major issue in Hollywood, so they are in a no-win position. I just like that there are more action films starring woman and ScarJo is at the forefront of that, so it’s somewhat progress for Hollywood. Small steps. Smaaaaaall steps. We did just go backwards with Trump, so clearly we are a biased country. We need women faces in big Hollywood movies more than ever.
Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31, 2017.
