Charlizeeeeeeeeee. Girl on fire. A couple years ago she hit the action stage with Mad Max: Fury Road, one of my favorite action movies of all-time, and Charlize kicks some serious ass in it. So I cannot wait to see her expand on her repertoire of moves, which looks like this movie certainly does.
And while watching the trailer, I was struck by a familiarity to one of my other more favorite recent action movies: John Wick. That feeling was confirmed when I looked at the IMDB page and saw that David Leitch is the director. Leitch was an executive producer for both Wick movies and was even an uncredited director for the first one, which makes him a very appealing candidate for a movie of this type. A movie about an MI6 agent who has lots of close, hand-to-hand combat, first made popular by the Bourne franchise. So yeah, to saw I’m excited for this would be an understatement. HYPED!
And the rest of the cast is great. We got Magneto himself, James McAvoy, Sofia Boutilla, who you will recognize as Jaylah from Star Trek Beyond, and Toby Jones, who, again, looks like he’s playing a creep. Last, but not least, we have John Goodman, who appears to be filling the Ian McShane role from the Wick franchise as sage old man.
In a summer filled with big budget franchise films, this movie might have a hard time competing, but I am excited for it nonetheless.
Atomic Blonde hits theaters on July 28, 2017.
