Jackie Brown is the softest and most mature of Quentin Tarantino’s films. And it is now celebrating its 25th anniversary with its Christmas Day release in 1997.

Outside of Death Proof, this is likely the Tarantino film that is most under-looked. Of course, it is the only adaptation in his filmography, so that likely has something to do with it. It doesn’t “feel” like a Tarantino flick. But that’s okay.

A bigger reason why this movie had such a soft release and fairly muted response is due to what came before it. Tarantino burst onto the scene with the daring Reservoir Dogs. A stylish, sleek crime caper. And then followed that up with the game-changing Pulp Fiction.

So, to follow those 2 films up with a quiet, mature story about middle-age, well, it’s not what people expected or, I guess, wanted from the dynamic director.

But time has done this film wonders. It is purely a hangout flick. Often formless in its plot and willing to move aimlessly with the characters.

Unfortunately, Jackie Brown is not currently on any streaming service. But you can always borrow it from your local library. Or be like me and own it on physical media.
